Nicolette Sopcak, Ph.D. (HEcol), M.A., M.C., CCC

AffiliatesI have a Master in Counselling and am a certified member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA/CCC# 10001714). I also have a PhD in Human Ecology and work as a researcher in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Alberta on a project on chronic disease prevention and screening. Michelle Kennedy, MC, Registered Provisional Psychologist

Affiliates My ideal client doesn’t exist because EVERYONE deserves competent, compassionate, culturally appropriate, accessible mental health care. You are my ideal candidate because you are human. I want to spend our time together helping you creating the space to share your story in your voice. We can talk about death, love, depression, anxiety, suicide, and gender. Or anything else that’s causing you to feel stuck. I particularly love working with 2SLGBTQIA+, youth and others who face marginalization in their day to day lives. I value collaboration, commitment, humour, joy and love. I love working with all humans but tend to specialize in adolescents and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, and other significant diagnoses. I also work with people on relational issues, family questions, body image, and building sexual intimacy.

As a family therapist I focus on communication, empathy, queer parenting, ADHD, and co-parenting.

How we tell our stories tell the people around us about who we are. But our stories aren’t always in our control; they are told to us and about us too. They are voices all around us telling us who we are and who we are ‘supposed’ to be – and this can cause significant distress. I am here to help you shape your story and speak it from an empowered voice. I have a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Calgary. I believe in the power of compassion and empathy and work (mostly) through a Narrative, Feminist, trauma informed, and anti-oppressive lens.

Age range:
– Adolescents 14 -18 years old
– Adults
– Elders

Hours available:

AffiliatesLife can be hard, confusing, and leave a person wondering how they ended up in this place. Feeling like you keep returning to the same difficulties whether they are memories that will not go away, feeling like no one understands what you are going through. Struggling with your everyday relationships or struggling with your intimate relationships. These are changeable.

As a master level social worker my goal is to help people, ages 14 and up, to find hope and experience new ways of addressing their struggles. I incorporate both the mind and body using my learning in EMDR, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure. I also assist couples in finding a new way to be together using Emotional Focused Therapy.
